Purity and length of peptide antigen
The purity of the peptide included in AB203 package is >70%. The impurity of a HPLC purified peptide is mainly shorter peptides that have little effect on specificity of antibodies raised. Peptide antigen at higher purity is available at slightly higher price. Please see package description for detail.
The length of a peptide epitope recognized by a antibody is about 7 residue long. A 15 residue peptide can contain multiple epitopes due to the overlap of epitope sequences.
Conjugation of peptide antigens to a carrier protein, such as KLH ( Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin) can significantly boost antigenitic power of a peptide. The conjugation is usually done through the -SH group of a Cys residue or -NH2 group. Conjugation through Cys's -SH group usually generates stronger immuno-reaction from animals. This is because its coupling efficiency is much higher. For this reason, we strongly recommend you to add a Cys at the either end of a peptide antigen if there is not an internal Cys residue in the peptide. Also, a Cys is required in cross-linking peptide antigens to support matrix for affinity purification of antibodies.
EZBiolab also provides conjugation to other carrier proteins, such as OVA or BSA.
